Today is all about AI announcements from Google. They are currently funding 15 new AI initiatives with $3M each. And Google has been improving Med-PaLM (For Health) and a new dataset called MADLAD-400 (For Language).

💰 Google is Funding More Innovations in AI

Google is funding 15 new AI projects, including digital health initiatives, to improve provider experience and patient access to care. Each project received $3 million in support and Google Cloud credits.

Some projects also received Google.org Fellowships, where a team of Google employees works with an organization pro bono full-time for up to six months.

Eight of the funded projects focus on digital health, including:

🤖 Google’s Powerful Large Language Models

Google has powerful medical machine learning technology, dubbed Med-PaLM 2, which is aimed at improving healthcare information access. Med-PaLM 2 utilizes the tech company's large language model to answer medical questions.

In July, a study performed by Google researchers and published in Nature revealed that Med-PaLM could answer medical questions on 92.6% of questions submitted, which aligns with human clinician-generated answers at 92.9%

Just recently, Google announced MADLAD-400 for language data. Researchers rely on web data to train language models, but this approach is limited for less common languages.

The MADLAD-400 team recognized these limitations and the challenges of web data, such as noise and inaccuracies. These problems are worse for languages with limited digital presence which MadLAD-400 now solves. (Read More)
