HCA (Healthcare Corporation of America) is expanding its partnership with Google Cloud to use AI in hospitals.

The for-profit health system has been testing the AI technology and plans to expand its use across the organization. HCA operates over 180 hospitals and 2,300 ambulatory care sites.

The use of AI aims to alleviate burnout among physicians and nurses caused by excessive documentation and bureaucratic burdens. HCA first collaborated with Google Cloud in 2021 to build a data analytics platform.

In a pilot program, emergency department doctors used Google's AI technology to document patient conversations.

The technology, in collaboration with Augmedix, creates medical notes from discussions, focusing on relevant information. Doctors review and make final adjustments before the notes are added to electronic health records.

The pilot program has received positive feedback, leading HCA to plan its implementation in more hospitals. (Read More)

More Americans are concerned about AI than excited, according to two studies released by Pew Research.

A survey by the Pew Research Center found that 52% of Americans feel more concerned than excited about the increased use of AI, a 14-point increase from December 2022.

Another study found that 63% of Americans believe AI chatbots will have a minor impact or no impact on their jobs.

The media has contributed to concern about AI, and many Americans believe AI does more to hurt than help people and keep their personal information private.

However, not many Americans have interacted with AI. Roughly a quarter of Americans who have heard of AI tools like ChatGPT (24%) say they have ever used it. That amounts to 18% of U.S. adults overall using ChatGPT. (Read More)
