🔬 AI Can Now ‘Taste’ Using e-Tongue to Test Drug Bitterness

Researchers from University College London (UCL) used an "electric tongue" and AI to predict drug bitterness.

Taste is crucial for medication compliance and drug development. The team from UCL used an e-tongue to measure bitterness and estimate aversiveness. The e-tongue compares bitter molecules on a sensor to a clear sample.

This method is faster and more effective than human trials. The team collaborated with machine learning experts to develop an AI model that predicts bitterness levels based on molecular descriptors.

The model will be open access for global pharmaceutical development. Taste is a problem for children and those on long-term medication, like HIV patients. Treatment adherence is important especially for antibiotics to prevent antimicrobial resistance. (Read More)
