Twitter, now called X, has various sub-communities, including medical Twitter…

Researchers at Stanford University have used medical Twitter to gather over 243,000 diagnostic images and annotations from highly trained clinicians. They recently released their published findings for pathology.

Pathology has lagged behind other areas of AI due to the lack of anonymized, image datasets, also complicated by the fact that there are 8,000 known diseases to classify — and an untold number of potentially valuable images kept locked away in private hospital databases.

Through Twitter they have built an AI model that can analyze and diagnose new images. Medical Twitter is a valuable resource for gathering diagnostic images and descriptions by creating one of the largest public pathology datasets.

The researchers believe that exploring diverse sources of data can greatly improve medical AI. (Read More)
