New AI technology has been developed by researchers that can now identify brain tumors.
It’s already being used in brain surgery and results have been published in the Nature Research Journal.

AI technology can determine the type of brain tumor during surgery, reducing the diagnosis time from a week to 1.5 hours. This allows neurosurgeons to adjust their surgical strategies immediately.
Researchers from UMC Utrecht, Princess Máxima Center, and Amsterdam UMC have published a study on this in Nature. The new deep-learning algorithm developed by UMC Utrecht can identify the tumor type within 20 to 40 minutes.
The algorithm was trained and tested using a biobank of tissue samples. The technique has been successfully used during brain surgeries in Utrecht and Amsterdam.
The DNA analysis during surgery helps determine the aggressiveness of the tumor and optimize surgical outcomes. Further research is needed to expand the algorithm and compare the new method with the current methods. (Read More)
