🔬 AI Patient Simulators Help Train Medical Students

Illinois Central College showed off its new human patient simulators Thursday at the Peoria campus. “Hal” is this simulator’s name, and there are nine others just like him.

These AI machines help teach nurses and EMT students how to handle a variety of procedures on a life-like patient, like decompressing a collapsed lung, giving CPR and even birthing a child.

Hal has the ability to talk and react in real-time giving students access to diverse ‘simulated’ patient situations.

There are only a few colleges or universities that have these AI simulators for healthcare students. AI patient simulators started selling on the market in early 2022. (Read More)

🤖 Nobel Prize-winning Scientists are Using AI for Research

Nobel Prize-winning biophysicist Michael Levitt has said "ChatGPT can make anyone 30 percent smarter”.

He praised the abilities and vast knowledge of large language models like ChatGPT. While some scientists have concerns about ChatGPT's ability to generate fictitious scientific papers, Levitt believes researchers can easily identify any errors.

Another Nobel laureate, Martin Chalfie, sees AI as a valuable tool in research, comparing it to getting a second opinion. However, not all Nobelists are convinced of the benefits of AI in research.

Avram Hershko suggests that LLMs should be transparent about the data they use and acknowledge contradictory conclusions.

Despite the debate, AI is predicted to have a significant positive impact in the coming years. Some argue that AI researchers should even be eligible for the Nobel Prize. (Read More)
